KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) lawmaker Julikumari Mahato has urged the government to address the demands of sugarcane farmers.

Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Wednesday, she called for a price-setting mechanism that prioritizes farmers’ costs and labor, and demanded transparency in subsidy distribution.

Mahato emphasized the need to end the situation where farmers must protest to receive fair compensation for their hard work.

She also urged the government to introduce farmer-friendly subsidies, improved irrigation facilities, and concrete programs for Chure conservation.

Highlighting negligence in Chure protection, she warned of growing problems in the Terai region and stressed the need for serious action.

She expressed confidence that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China would prove significant for national interest and sovereignty.
