KATHMANDU: Political tensions are expected to escalate in Nepal’s federal capital, Kathmandu, tomorrow (Friday).

On one side, monarchist groups are gearing up for street protests, while on the other, ruling party members from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) and other socialist factions have also announced plans for a show of force.

Amid increasing political polarization, both sides will be holding demonstrations on the same day, which has led security forces to heighten their vigilance.

The Socialist Front has prepared for protests tomorrow, with republican forces uniting to take to the streets. At the same time, Durga Prasai’s “National, Nationality, Religion, Culture, and Citizens’ Protection Grand Campaign,” and the “Joint People’s Movement Committee for the Restoration of the Monarchy,” led by Nawaraj Subedi, are planning protests.

This movement will also receive support from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and RPP Nepal.

This intensifying political environment has raised concerns of possible tension in the capital. Given the unpredictability of political protests, the security forces have adopted heightened alertness.

The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has issued directives to the police departments in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, as well as the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Bureau, to remain vigilant.

Authorities have increased covert surveillance over potential intrusions into the socialist front’s demonstration.

Police officers in these three districts have been tasked with monitoring political activities using their respective sources. According to police sources, there is a thorough investigation into the nature of the protests and their potential impacts to avoid any untoward incidents.

Given the risks political movements pose to Kathmandu’s security, coordination among various security agencies has been stepped up.

The political protests could also disrupt traffic in the capital, and the traffic police are making special arrangements. Considering the sensitivity of the political situation and security concerns, law enforcement is prepared to deploy additional forces if necessary.

There will be an increased security presence in major areas of Kathmandu tomorrow, and the activities of the demonstrators will be closely monitored.
