KATHMANDU: Football legend Lionel Messi concluded his India tour with a spiritual visit to Vantara, the wildlife conservation centre founded by Anant Ambani.

During the visit, Messi participated in traditional Hindu rituals, including Hanuman Puja and ceremonial aarti, earning admiration from fans and attendees for embracing Indian spiritual traditions.

Messi, accompanied by teammates Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul, was welcomed with vibrant folk music, floral greetings, and a ceremonial aarti.

He offered prayers for world peace, unity, and goodwill, and was seen wearing a tilak and rudraksha beads while engaging sincerely in the rituals.

After the spiritual ceremonies, Messi toured the sanctuary, observing rescued big cats, elephants, and other wildlife, and learning about conservation and rehabilitation efforts.

A playful moment occurred at the Elephant Care Centre, where Messi interacted with a rescued elephant calf named Maniklal.

In a symbolic gesture of friendship, a lion cub at the sanctuary was named “Lionel” in his honor. Messi praised the centre’s efforts, calling them “truly beautiful” and expressing admiration for the work being done in wildlife conservation.

Messi’s visit marked a memorable cultural conclusion to his India tour, blending sport, spirituality, and conservation.
