Madhesh CM Yadav to seek confidence vote today
Yadav is scheduled to present his confidence motion at the assembly session at 4 PM.
KATHMANDU: Krishna Prasad Yadav, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, will seek a vote of confidence in the provincial assembly today (Friday).
Following the agreement reached at a recent meeting of the seven-party coalition at the Chief Minister’s residence in Madhesh Bhawan, Yadav is scheduled to present his confidence motion at the assembly session at 4 PM.
Yadav, who also leads the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, was appointed Chief Minister on Mangsir 19 under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
He commands a clear majority with signatures from 77 lawmakers representing six parties.
Given the assembly’s numbers, he is expected to secure a comfortable two-thirds majority.
Outgoing Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav has pledged to support the incoming government in the confidence vote, increasing the likelihood that Krishna Prasad Yadav will receive backing from almost the entire house.
In the 107-member provincial assembly, a minimum of 54 votes is required to form the government. Yadav enjoys strong support from Congress (22), JSP Nepal (19), Janamat (13), Maoist Centre (9), LSP (9), and the Unified Socialist Party (7).
Only the UML (25), Nepal Federal Socialist Party (1), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (1) remain formally outside the government.
However, today’s session will reveal how these parties position themselves amid shifting political dynamics.
The Provincial Assembly Secretariat has prioritized the confidence motion on today’s agenda.
