Lebanon begins state-led reconstruction in Southern Villages hit by Israeli strikes

KATHMANDU: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Saturday the launch of government-led reconstruction projects in the southern villages of Yarin and Tayr Harfa, both heavily damaged by Israeli attacks.
During a visit to southern Lebanon, Salam said the reconstruction process had begun as a foundation for long-term recovery, according to the state news agency.
He described southern Lebanon as a national cause, stressing that rebuilding infrastructure and restoring essential services are critical to ensuring stability and enabling residents to remain in their communities.
The prime minister outlined a comprehensive recovery framework that includes direct cash assistance, free healthcare services, and guaranteed continuity of education for displaced students.
The government will also prioritize the reconstruction of public infrastructure and state-owned properties to improve living conditions in the affected villages.
Salam praised the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces in maintaining stability in the south, highlighting their importance during the fragile post-conflict period.
Although a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel has been in effect since Nov 27, 2024, Israeli forces have continued to carry out repeated strikes inside Lebanon, claiming they are targeting Hezbollah threats.
