KATHMANDU: Ashok Koirala, a prominent leader of the CPN (Unified Socialist), has passed away.

He was a member of the Politburo and served as the district in-charge in Banke, where he was a resident of Kohalpur.

Koirala had suffered a stroke three weeks ago while in Kapilvastu on party-related duties and was left unconscious.

After initial treatment in Bhairahawa, he was transferred to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, where he succumbed to his condition.

Before joining the Unified Socialist Party, Koirala was actively involved in the communist movement since his student days.

He had held various leadership positions within the CPN-UML, including the role of District Chairperson.

Koirala is survived by his son and daughter. His family has announced that his funeral will take place on Tuesday.

The news was confirmed by Loknath Sharma, the co-coordinator of the propaganda department of the CPN Unified Socialist in Banke.
