KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has strongly criticized remarks made by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in the House of Representatives, calling them “inappropriate, factually questionable, and against national interest.”

In a statement posted on social media, former Prime Minister and senior NCP leader Jhalanath Khanal said Shah’s comments suggesting that Nepal has also encroached upon Indian territory were “deeply serious, painful, and misleading.”

Khanal argued that such remarks undermine the long-standing national sentiment of Nepal, saying the country has historically resisted foreign encroachment and continues to face territorial sensitivities.

“On what basis, what evidence, and what documents were such dangerous claims made?” Khanal questioned, demanding clarification from Shah.

He further stated that the remarks had “hurt the patriotic sentiment” of Nepali citizens at home and abroad, and insisted that no individual making such statements should hold high executive responsibility.

Khanal has called for an apology from Shah, urging political and civil forces to continue protest until it is issued.

He also demanded that the controversial remarks be expunged from the parliamentary record.
