Kane scores as Bayern thrash spurs 4-0 in pre-season clash

KATHMANDU: England captain Harry Kane found the back of the net against his former club as Bayern Munich delivered a dominant 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly at the Allianz Arena on Thursday.
Kane opened the scoring in the 12th minute after controlling a brilliant long pass from Michael Olise, showcasing his trademark composure in front of goal.
However, just three minutes later, the 32-year-old missed an opportunity to double his tally, slipping while taking a penalty and sending the ball over the crossbar.
Despite the miss, Bayern controlled the game throughout and exploded in the second half with three more goals.
Kingsley Coman made it 2-0 in the 61st minute, finishing calmly after receiving a pass from Konrad Laimer. Midway through the second half, Bayern substituted several senior players including Kane, bringing on a group of promising young talents – two of whom went on to score.
Seventeen-year-old Lenart Karl scored Bayern’s third goal with his very first touch in the 74th minute, curling a precise shot from outside the box. Six minutes later, 18-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare completed the rout with a well-taken goal in the 80th minute.
This match marked Kane’s second appearance against Tottenham since joining Bayern in a record £86.4 million transfer in 2023. The former Spurs talisman had previously faced his old club in a friendly last year in London.
Kane remains Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer with 280 goals in 435 appearances.
Summer signing Luis Díaz, who recently joined from Liverpool, was also handed a start for Bayern in the match.
Bayern Munich will officially begin their 2025/26 campaign next Wednesday with a UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain in Udine, Italy.
