Indian Foreign Secretary Misri to visit Nepal
His visit is widely viewed as a preparatory step for the upcoming official visit of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to India later this month.
KATHMANDU: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to arrive in Kathmandu on Bhadra 1, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His visit is widely viewed as a preparatory step for the upcoming official visit of Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to India later this month.
This will be the first high-level Indian visit to Nepal following the formation of the new government under CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli.
During his stay, Misri is scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Oli, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, and other senior government officials and political leaders.
According to sources, the main purpose of Misri’s visit is to finalize agendas and logistics for PM Oli’s potential visit to India, which is tentatively scheduled for Bhadra 15.
Officials at the Prime Minister’s Office have hinted that Oli’s visit could take place at the end of Bhadra, and Misri’s visit is expected to help finalize the date and detailed itinerary.
The Foreign Secretary-level talks will cover a broad spectrum of bilateral cooperation.
Key topics on the agenda include connectivity, energy trade, agriculture, health, culture, and a progress review of India-supported development projects in Nepal.
Although PM Oli has already visited China during his current tenure, he has yet to visit India.
As such, the upcoming trip is seen as a crucial opportunity to strengthen trust and enhance bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries.
