KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has said that the National Police Training Academy has played a crucial role in producing competent and professional police personnel.

Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of the Academy’s 70th anniversary, IGP Karki praised the institution’s long-standing contribution to strengthening the Nepal Police.

He said the Academy has consistently produced skilled, capable, quality and disciplined manpower in line with the country’s evolving security needs.

Highlighting the various security challenges Nepal Police has faced over different periods — including political transitions, social transformation and administrative reforms — IGP Karki said the Academy’s role in preparing professional personnel at every stage has been commendable.

“The foundation of any police organization is discipline and training,” he said, noting that the Academy’s seven-decade-long contribution in reinforcing this foundation remains memorable.

He also emphasized the need for continuous reforms in training systems and methods in view of emerging security challenges, rapid technological advancements and evolving forms of crime.

Quality training, he added, is essential not only to enhance operational effectiveness but also to strengthen public trust in police service.

IGP Karki stressed that the Academy’s role must become even more effective in shaping discipline and service-oriented values as the defining identity of Nepal Police.

On the occasion, Executive Director of the Academy and Additional Inspector General (AIG) Shiddhi Bikram Shah reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to preserving its dignity, distinctiveness and professionalism.

During the program, IGP Karki presented the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ to retired Police Inspector Thagaprasad Chaudhary in recognition of his outstanding contribution to police training and other sectors.

Similarly, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Taradevi Thapa, Chief of Nepal Police School, Bharatpur, Chitwan, was honored with the Best Training Center Running Shield and a certificate of appreciation for successfully managing training activities in an organized and effective manner and producing skilled and professional manpower.

IGP Karki also unveiled the Academy’s publication titled ‘Prerna–2082’ at the event.
