KATHMANDU: Renowned Nepali actor Nikhil Upreti has affirmed that he will continue to dedicate himself to acting rather than entering politics.

Addressing journalists at a press conference on Monday, Upreti emphasized that individuals excelling in a particular profession should contribute to society within their field rather than being expected to take political roles.

He stated, “Lately, there’s a notion that people who excel professionally must become politicians or ministers. That’s not right. We should contribute to national development from wherever we are. Audiences appreciate me as an actor, so I will continue to thrive in the field of acting.”

Although he does not intend to participate directly in politics, Upreti stressed the importance of political awareness for all citizens. “Understanding politics is essential for the future and development of our country. If people are not well-informed, good representation cannot reach policymaking bodies. With elections approaching, voters have the responsibility to ask the right questions and choose capable candidates,” he added.

Meanwhile, filming for Upreti’s upcoming movie “Kasturi” began today in the Kathmandu Valley.

Directed by Rit Bohora, the film stars a large ensemble cast including Barsha Siwakoti, Shekhar Chapagain, Nirmal Sharma, Nisha Adhikari, Arjun Gurung, Bholaraj Sapkota, Sabi Thapa, Prashant KC, Santosh Baniya, Subash Bamjan, Mira Pandit, Ghanshyam Joshi, Shreya Shrestha, Pratishtha Thapa, and Neha Gautam.
