Parliament postponed to Sunday
The notice further mentions that, due to special circumstances, the meeting could not be held at the scheduled time.
KATHMANDU: The meeting of the House of Representatives has been postponed until 11 a.m. on Sunday. The session, initially scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, was delayed to 1:15 p.m. after a lack of agreement between political parties.
The Parliament has been disrupted for several days due to ongoing opposition protests. According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, the next session will now be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Today, Speaker Devraj Ghimire held discussions with the chief whips of the major political parties in Parliament. Speaker Ghimire has been engaging with the parties to resolve the deadlock in the Parliament.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya. The ongoing obstruction by opposition parties in Parliament has raised concerns over the future of five ordinances currently under parliamentary process. If these ordinances are not passed by Tuesday, as per the constitutional deadline, they will automatically become inactive.
The opposition parties have maintained their stance to continue the blockade in Parliament until Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli provides a response regarding the dismissal of Kulman Ghising, the executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority.
According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, no notice has been received yet regarding the Prime Minister’s response.
However, UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula stated on Thursday that a government minister, rather than the Prime Minister, could respond in Parliament.
