KATHMANDU: Nepali singer Hemant Sharma has announced that his wife, Ritu Sharma, has successfully completed treatment for breast cancer.

In a social media post, Hemant highlighted that the six-month, complex treatment process demonstrated that high-quality cancer care is possible in Nepal, eliminating the need to travel abroad for treatment.

Ritu was diagnosed with breast cancer in the third week of Bhadra. Under the supervision of Dr. Sudip Shrestha at the Nepal Cancer Hospital in Lalitpur, she underwent eight chemotherapy sessions, a double mastectomy, and 15 radiation sessions—all successfully completed.

Hemant explained that while many had advised seeking treatment in Delhi immediately after the diagnosis, the family chose to trust Nepal’s healthcare system and proceed with treatment domestically. He also commented on a wider trend among celebrities who travel abroad for medical care, noting that “economic luxury often makes distant options seem preferable over nearby facilities.”

During the six-month period, Ritu visited the hospital approximately 80 times, a journey that Hemant described as a significant learning experience. Now, with the main phases of treatment completed, Ritu’s health is stable, and she will continue regular medication and follow-ups in the coming years.
