KATHMANDU: Thousands of Gen Z youth gathered at Maitighar Mandala, Kathmandu, on Monday morning to protest rising corruption and the government’s decision to block social media platforms.
The demonstration, which began at 9 a.m., saw significant participation, including many students in college uniforms and ID cards.

The protesters voiced deep dissatisfaction with the current political scenario, demanding job creation, good governance, and the reversal of restrictions on citizens’ freedom of expression. They carried placards with slogans such as: “Extreme frustration, leaders’ pockets heating up,” “Gen Z shouts, exposing corruption,” “Where did the taxes go?” “Freedom of voice is our right,” and “Stop corruption, social media blocked, corruption open.”

Participants also raised their voices through songs like “Rise from every village, awaken every community, to change the face of this nation,” emphasizing their determination for peaceful yet firm protest.

The organizers stressed that the demonstration would remain non-partisan, with no speeches or political leaders involved.

This peaceful but powerful protest signals that Nepal’s youth will no longer remain silent on issues affecting the country’s future, sending a strong message to the government to act against corruption, promote good governance, and respect citizens’ rights.
