Gen Z protests escalate in Itahari: Police open fire as buildings vandalized

KATHMANDU: Gen Z-led protests in Itahari have directly impacted the Sub-Metropolitan Office and surrounding buildings.

According to police sources, the demonstration turned violent, prompting officers to fire dozens of rounds in the air to control the crowd.

Protesters attempted to enter the Sub-Metropolitan premises, while also vandalizing the Multi-Purpose Cooperative building with stones and other projectiles.

Meanwhile, the East-West Highway was completely blocked for a short period, causing significant disruption.

Local authorities have increased security and are working to restore order.
