Gen Z protesters surround Itahari Municipality

KATHMANDU: Angry over a social media shutdown and rampant corruption, Gen Z activists surrounded the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City office on Sunday.

The protest, which began early in the morning, escalated into clashes with police by afternoon.

Authorities used tear gas and fired warning shots to control the situation.

Several protesters and police personnel were reported injured during the confrontations.

Students from various schools and colleges marched with placards and slogans through the city before reaching the municipal office.

Despite a heavy deployment of security personnel, the protesters managed to enter the municipal premises and stage a sit-in.
