KATHMANDU: A powerful protest led by the youth, popularly known as Gen Z, against widespread corruption and the government’s recent social media restrictions has surged from Maitighar to New Baneshwor in Kathmandu.
Hundreds of demonstrators filled the streets, chanting slogans and expressing strong dissent, severely disrupting traffic in the area.
Police have set up barricades at New Baneshwor to contain the protesters, who carried placards demanding an end to corruption, the lifting of social media restrictions, and the establishment of good governance.
The youth, who have been vocal online against government mismanagement and corruption, were compelled to take to the streets after authorities imposed restrictions on social media platforms.
The protest has garnered support from political leaders, civil society figures, and independent activists.
As the government faces mounting criticism for curbing freedom of expression, this demonstration has intensified public pressure, sending a clear message of discontent from the country’s younger generation.
