Five Nepali athletes set to compete in South Asian Athletics Cross Country Championship in Pakistan

KATHMANDU: Five Nepali athletes are set to compete in the South Asian Athletics Cross Country Championship in Islamabad, Pakistan, scheduled for Feb 23.
The event will feature two senior athletes and three junior athletes, making up a total of five male competitors representing Nepal.
The Nepali team, consisting of seven members, will depart for Pakistan on Thursday. In the senior category, Sushil Kumar Shahi and Sanjay Shrestha will take part, while in the junior category, Badal Karki, Ajay BK, and Krishna Bahadur Pariyar will compete.
The senior athletes will race in a 10-kilometer event, while the juniors will race over 8 kilometers, according to the Nepal Athletics Association.
The team will be coached by Bimala Rana Magar, with Bhim Kumari Bhusal serving as the manager.
On Wednesday, the Secretary-General of the National Sports Council (NSC), Tankalal Ghising, bid farewell to the team.
During the farewell, Ghising encouraged the athletes to showcase their training in the competition and urged them to aim for excellent performances as part of preparations for the upcoming Mission-2026 and Asian Games.
He emphasized that athletes who do not perform well could make way for new, promising talents.
