Dalit victim seeks security & justice from Madhesh CM
Mallik highlighted that after legal action was initiated against the perpetrators, his family has been subjected to threats and pressure, forcing him into hiding.
KATHMANDU: In Siraha’s Aurahi Municipality-5, Deepak Mallik, a victim of discrimination under the guise of a grand religious ceremony, has met with the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, Satish Kumar Singh, seeking security after facing threats and harassment.
Mallik, along with Dalit leaders, visited the Chief Minister’s residence in Janakpur on Tuesday morning, expressing their concerns over the abuse inflicted upon his family by the Municipality Chairperson Shivji Yadav, former ward chairperson Dilip Yadav, and Bajrangi Baba.
Mallik highlighted that after legal action was initiated against the perpetrators, his family has been subjected to threats and pressure, forcing him into hiding.
He also reported that the relatives of the Municipality Chairperson have been pressuring him to change his statement in court and to reconcile, further escalating his insecurity.
Mallik stated that the police had failed to take his family’s safety seriously despite being fully aware of the situation.
Additionally, after his house was demolished, Mallik no longer has a place to live and requested the Chief Minister’s assistance in arranging housing.
In response, Chief Minister Singh assured Mallik that he would take the necessary steps regarding both his security and housing concerns.
The incident occurred on March 30 when Mallik’s house, located near the Mahayagya site, was demolished by the Municipality Chairperson, former ward chairperson, and Bajrangi Baba under the pretext of the ceremony.
On Saturday, Mallik filed a complaint at the District Police Office in Siraha, accusing the three men of caste-based discrimination, destruction of property, and forced displacement.
He demanded legal action against the perpetrators and compensation for the damages.
The Municipality Chairperson and former ward chairperson were arrested last Friday and are currently in police custody.
Efforts are ongoing to locate Bajrangi Baba.
