KATHMANDU: Nepali film Crawling Crows: Aankha, directed by Jaun Yonjan, has achieved a historic international milestone by winning two prestigious Remi Awards at the renowned WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival in the United States.

According to the festival organizers, the film received the Platinum Remi Award in the Foreign Features category and the Gold Remi Award in the Directing – Craft Category. The official confirmation was delivered to the production team via email.

WorldFest-Houston has long been recognized for discovering and honoring emerging cinematic talent from around the globe.

Legendary Hollywood filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, David Lynch and Ang Lee were also recipients of Remi Awards early in their careers.

The latest achievement marks a major moment for Nepal’s film industry, as Crawling Crows: Aankha secured top honors on one of the most respected international platforms for independent cinema.

The film had previously created history at the 62nd edition of the Asia Pacific Film Festival by winning the award for Best Film, becoming the first Nepali movie ever to receive the festival’s highest honor.

With major victories in both Asia and the United States, Aankha has significantly elevated the global presence of Nepali cinema and drawn international attention toward Nepal’s emerging film industry.

Critics say the film’s growing international recognition proves that authentic Nepali stories can resonate deeply with global audiences. The success also highlights the rising strength of Nepali filmmaking in terms of storytelling, technical excellence, and cinematic vision.

The film portrays the harsh realities, struggles, and emotional lives of people living in informal settlements, presenting their stories with depth and realism.

The cast includes Smita Lamichhane, Pashupati Rai, Nisha Adhikari, RK Mehta, Bijay Baral and Buddhi Tamang, all of whom have been praised for their powerful performances.
