KATHMANDU: The High Court Patan has ordered a temporary suspension on the public screening of the Nepali film Lalibazar until 22 Baisakh (May 5).

A single bench of Justice Prakash Dhungana issued the interim order, directing that the film not be exhibited for the time being.

According to court information officer Govinda Prasad Koirala, the ruling came after a petition was filed by Roshi Nepali from the Badi community.

She raised objections over the use of certain words and expressions in the film, claiming they were offensive to her community.

The film, directed by Yam Thapa and produced under Shatkon Arts, was scheduled for release on 18 Baisakh (May 1).

It is said to focus on the struggles of women from the Badi community.

Meanwhile, just a day earlier, the Central Film Censor Board had already granted the film a Universal Certificate, clearing it for public exhibition.

The court’s interim order has now put the film’s release on hold until further proceedings.
