Couple murdered at home; police launch investigation
60-year-old Shobhitman Thapa Magar and his wife Ratnamaya Thapa Magar, who were living alone at home, were attacked with sharp weapons by an unknown group.
KATHMANDU: A couple was murdered on Tuesday night in Bhadaure, Chishankhugadhi Rural Municipality-6, Okhaldhunga.
60-year-old Shobhitman Thapa Magar and his wife Ratnamaya Thapa Magar, who were living alone at home, were attacked with sharp weapons by an unknown group.
Neighbors grew concerned Wednesday morning when the couple failed to respond and did not come out of the house. Upon checking, they found both individuals dead.
The couple had been living alone as their children were away from home.
Given the gravity of the incident, the Okhaldhunga District Police deployed a trained tracking dog from the Koshi Province Police Office, Dharan.
A team led by Inspector Bikrambadur Bhattarai has sealed the crime scene and initiated a detailed investigation.
“The tracking dog was brought to the scene last night. Preliminary investigation indicates that sharp weapons were used,” Inspector Bhattarai said. “We are monitoring suspicious individuals, but no arrests have been made so far.”
Police added that the bodies will not be removed until a thorough crime scene examination with the assistance of the tracking dog is completed.
This incident follows a similar unsolved case a few months ago in Siddhicharan Municipality-4, where 52-year-old Ratnakumari Katwal Karki was found murdered inside her home.
Authorities are yet to apprehend the culprits in that case.
