Communication minister meets Japanese Ambassador Toru Maeda for diplomatic talks
Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, expressed his warm welcome and discussed several key aspects of Nepal-Japan relations.
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Communication and Information Minister, Prithvi Subba Gurung, welcomed Japan’s newly appointed Ambassador to Nepal, Toru Maeda, in his office.
Minister Gurung, who is also the government spokesperson, expressed his warm welcome and discussed several key aspects of Nepal-Japan relations.
During the meeting, Minister Gurung highlighted the significant potential for attracting Japanese investment in Nepal’s priority sectors for development. He urged Ambassador Maeda to encourage Japanese investors to explore more opportunities in Nepal, emphasizing that there is great promise for economic collaboration between the two nations.
Minister Gurung also expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming Nepal-2025 World Expo, set to take place in Osaka, Japan. He noted that the event will provide an excellent platform for showcasing Nepalese products and will contribute to boosting bilateral trade relations.
The minister further informed Ambassador Maeda about the 70th anniversary of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations in 2026, which will coincide with Nepal’s graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
He expressed confidence that this milestone would lead to enhanced development assistance from Japan to Nepal.
Ambassador Maeda shared his admiration for Nepal’s natural beauty and cultural richness, expressing his desire to visit Mustang, a region in Nepal known for its scenic landscapes.
Minister Gurung also took the opportunity to highlight the beauty of Lamjung district, known for its tourist attractions, and encouraged the ambassador to explore the area.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Communication Radhika Aryal, Joint Secretary Koshhari Niraula, IT expert Dr. Shaligram Parajuli, and other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
