KATHMANDU: Bir Hospital has expanded its emergency ward capacity to better handle the growing number of patients.
Hospital Director Dr. Dilip Sharma announced that 25 additional emergency beds have been added, increasing the total from the previous 30.
“Previously, we had to accommodate two patients in a single bed due to high patient influx,” Dr. Sharma said. “With the new expansion, we aim to provide better care. Another 20 emergency beds will be added soon.”
The newly expanded emergency ward also includes facilities for patients’ attendants to prepare meals.
The project, costing Rs 70 million, was funded jointly by the Ministry of Health and Population and the hospital’s internal resources.
Currently, Bir Hospital treats over 3,000 patients daily and performs 70–80 surgeries each day.
The hospital has a total of 850 beds and 110 intensive care unit (ICU) beds.
