Biplav slams PM Balen over Nepal–India border remarks, demands apology
He also questioned the role of Parliament, stating that lawmakers failed to respond effectively when such remarks were made from the parliamentary rostrum.
KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Centre) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ has strongly objected to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks in Parliament regarding the Nepal–India border dispute.
Biplav condemned the Prime Minister’s statement that “India has encroached on Nepal’s land and Nepal has also encroached on India’s territory,” calling it “unacceptable, condemnable, and irresponsible.”
In a video message released on Monday via social media, Biplav argued that the Nepal–India border dispute is not a mutual weakness but a result of long-standing Indian encroachment on Nepali territory.
He claimed that areas including Kalapani, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, Susta, Maheshpur, and more than 64 other locations have repeatedly been identified by experts and stakeholders as being under Indian encroachment.
“Presenting such a sensitive national issue in a casual manner is an insult to the nation and its people. This is unacceptable,” he said.
He also questioned the role of Parliament, stating that lawmakers failed to respond effectively when such remarks were made from the parliamentary rostrum.
According to him, the legislature has not demonstrated adequate seriousness on matters linked to national sovereignty.
Biplav further demanded that Prime Minister Shah provide a clear explanation to the nation and issue a public apology. He also raised questions over whether such statements are appropriate for someone holding the office of Prime Minister.
Warning of future political resistance, Biplav said his party would soon launch protest programmes on issues of national sovereignty and urged patriotic forces, civil society groups, and organizations to unite.
