Basana questions PM’s remarks on Nepal–India border claim
Thapa questioned the Prime Minister’s claim that Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory. She said the statement requires clear factual basis and official clarification.
KATHMANDU: Basana Thapa of the Nepali Congress has raised serious concerns over remarks made by Prime Minister Balen Shah regarding the Nepal–India border dispute.
Speaking in Sunday’s House of Representatives session, Thapa questioned the Prime Minister’s claim that Nepal has also encroached on Indian territory. She said the statement requires clear factual basis and official clarification.
According to Thapa, the Prime Minister had stated in Parliament that there are border disputes between Nepal and India and also suggested that Nepal had encroached upon Indian land.
Challenging this assertion, she asked which specific territory was being referred to and demanded evidence.
She described the remarks as serious and objectionable, urging the Prime Minister to present facts and proof before Parliament and the public.
If the claim is accurate, she said, it must be substantiated with evidence; if not, it should be removed from official records.
Thapa stressed that statements on sensitive issues like international borders should not be made without verified facts, warning that such remarks could have serious diplomatic implications.
