KATHMANDU: Pakistani security forces have successfully concluded a major anti-terrorism operation in the southwestern province of Balochistan, killing at least 216 militants, the military said.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants’ attacks had previously claimed the lives of 22 security and law enforcement personnel, along with 36 civilians.

The operation was launched on Jan 29 following verified intelligence about the presence of militants posing a serious threat to local communities.

The military said it successfully thwarted a series of attacks carried out by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army.

The ISPR statement added that the forces conducted a series of intelligence-driven operations across multiple areas, aimed at dismantling militant “sleeper cells” through continuous combing and sanitization efforts. Large caches of foreign weapons, ammunition, explosives, and other materials were seized during the campaign.

The military described the operation as a decisive blow against militancy in the region, enhancing security for local residents and restoring stability in previously vulnerable areas.
