KATHMANDU: Senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and candidate for Jhapa-5 in the upcoming House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21 (March 5), Balen Shah, has announced that Nepal’s former cricket captain Gyanendra Malla will play a key role in shaping sports policy at the national level.

Through a social media post, Shah highlighted Nepal’s historic performance in the 2014 ICC World Cup, emphasizing Malla’s pivotal contribution.

He confirmed that Malla has been nominated as the party’s proportional representation candidate, assigning him the responsibility of advancing Nepal’s sports sector.

Shah recalled Nepal’s victories over Afghanistan and Hong Kong during the 2014 Bangladesh World Cup, noting that Malla’s batting was instrumental in establishing Nepal’s strong presence on the global cricket stage. “The discipline, skill, and resilience he demonstrated on the field will now be leveraged to further the development of cricket and sports in Nepal,” Shah stated.

Emphasizing the importance of youth and expert leadership in politics, Shah underscored that sports not only unite the nation and bring joy but also offer professional opportunities. “Gyanendra Malla has been entrusted with planning, strategizing, and leading sports development. His vision and experience will guide Nepal’s sports sector into a new era,” he added.
