KATHMANDU: Asim Shah, the chief political adviser to Prime Minister Balen Shah, has filed his candidacy for the post of central committee member at the ongoing first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Shah is contesting under the party’s open Muslim-inclusive cluster.

He is widely regarded as a key figure in fostering political cooperation and creating an environment for possible unity between Balen Shah and the RSP.

Over the years, he has played an active role in promoting dialogue, policy discussions, and coordination among alternative political forces.

During the Gen Z movement held on Sept 8–9, Shah became the first lawmaker to resign from Parliament. At the time, he was serving as a proportional representation member of the House of Representatives.

Advocating greater collaboration among emerging political forces in line with the spirit of the movement, Shah took initiatives to facilitate communication and coordination between different stakeholders. He is credited with helping bring various sides to the negotiating table through sustained dialogue efforts.

Beyond political mediation, Shah has remained actively involved in organizational expansion, policy debates, and efforts to strengthen cooperation among reform-oriented political groups.

Following his candidacy announcement, Shah pledged to work toward enhancing the party’s ideological clarity, strengthening its organizational structure, and advancing the practice of inclusive democracy.

He also vowed to help expand RSP’s campaign for good governance, accountability, and political change at the grassroots level.

Shah currently serves as coordinator of a task force responsible for preparing a discussion paper on constitutional amendments.
