Actress Nisha Adhikari spent Rs 776,921 in Kathmandu-5 poll campaign

KATHMANDU: Actress-turned-politician Nisha Adhikari has submitted details of her campaign expenses to the Election Commission of Nepal after contesting the parliamentary by-election from Kathmandu Constituency-5.
According to information she shared on social media, Adhikari spent a total of Rs 776,921 during her election campaign.
In accordance with Section 72 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074 BS and the election code of conduct approved by the Election Commission, she submitted the election campaign and management expenses details to the Commission on Friday.
The largest portion of her spending went to social media (advertising and design), including advertising and design, amounting to around Rs 250,000.
Other notable expenses included office operations, transportation, and photo and video production for campaign activities.
Along with the expenditure report, Adhikari also submitted her income details to the commission in accordance with Section 31 of the Election (Offences and Punishments) Act, 2073 BS.
The report shows she received Rs 200,000 from the Gatisheel Loktantrik Party (Dynamic Democratic Party), Rs 549,067 from individual supporters, and Rs 27,855 from the candidate herself.
Adhikari had intensified her campaign in Kathmandu-5 after registering her candidacy on Magh 6, presenting a five-point agenda to voters. However, she failed to secure the expected support in the election.
She received only 91 votes, leading to the forfeiture of her security deposit.
Following the defeat, Adhikari wrote on social media that her dream of reaching parliament remains alive, suggesting she may continue her political journey despite the setback.
