KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has predicted generally fair weather conditions across most parts of the country during Tihar, Nepal’s second-largest festival.
However, the influence of westerly winds may bring partial to moderate cloud cover in some hilly regions.
According to the MFD, while no significant weather system is currently affecting the country, light rain is possible in a few hilly areas, and light snowfall may occur over the high Himalayan regions during the festival period.
As per the division’s forecast for Oct 20–23 (Kartik 3–6), weather on the day of Laxmi Puja (Kartik 3) is expected to be partly cloudy in the hilly areas and mostly clear elsewhere.
Brief rain may occur at one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
On Kartik 4, the weather will remain mostly clear across the country, with partial cloud cover over the hilly areas and chances of light rain in a few spots of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali.
Similarly, on Kartik 5, partial to moderate cloud cover is expected in the hilly regions, while other areas will experience fair weather. Light rain or snowfall may occur at a few high-altitude and Himalayan locations in Koshi and Karnali provinces.
On Bhai Tika day (Kartik 6), partial to moderate clouds may appear over Koshi, Madhes, and other hilly regions, while most parts of the country will see generally clear skies.
Light rain and snowfall are likely in some high-hill and mountain areas across all provinces.
Overall, the MFD said, Tihar is expected to be celebrated under mostly clear and pleasant weather conditions throughout the country.
