Vijay taking oath as CM today
He is set to become the ninth Chief Minister of the state.
KATHMANDU: Vijay Thalapathy, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is set to become the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from today, May 10.
According to Indian media reports, Vijay — who is also a popular actor known as “Thalapathy” — will take the oath of office at 10:00 AM at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
He is set to become the ninth Chief Minister of the state.
In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, a party or coalition requires the support of at least 118 lawmakers to form a government.
In the recently held assembly elections, TVK secured victory in 108 seats.
However, as Vijay won from two constituencies, the party’s effective tally stands at 107 seats after he vacates one seat.
Vijay secured the required majority with the support of the Indian National Congress, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).
On Saturday, Vijay submitted letters of support from 121 MLAs to Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Tamil Nadu, who will administer the oath of office today.
