KATHMANDU: The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported that it has disabled a commercial vessel flying the Gambian flag that was heading toward an Iranian port.
The operation took place on Friday in the Gulf of Oman, with CENTCOM providing official confirmation on Saturday.
According to CENTCOM, the vessel named MV Lian Star was moving through international waters en route to Iran when it was intercepted.
The U.S. military stated that the ship was allegedly violating American sanctions and was repeatedly warned—more than 20 times—to stop before action was taken.
Following the intervention, the vessel is no longer able to continue its journey toward Iran.
CENTCOM further stated that this operation is part of its ongoing naval enforcement activities, during which it claims to have disabled five commercial vessels and redirected 116 ships so far.
