UN launches $529 million response plan for Afghan returnees from Iran & Pakistan
The plan aims to reach an estimated 2.7 million Afghans projected to return from Iran and Pakistan between April and December 2026.
KABUL: The United Nations, together with national and international NGO partners launched the 2026 Response Plan for Afghan Returnees (RPAR), with the total funding requirement for the response is $529 million.
The plan aims to reach an estimated 2.7 million Afghans projected to return from Iran and Pakistan between April and December 2026.
Since September 2023, nearly 5.9 million Afghans have returned to the country, an increase of 10 to 12 per cent of Afghanistan’s population in just over two years.
The response plan launched projects a further 1.7 million estimated returns from Iran and 1.1 million from Pakistan in the coming eight‑months period.
The UN and NGO partners urged donors to fully fund the 2026 RPAR to prevent a deterioration of the humanitarian and protection crisis and to build a foundation for recovery, sustainable re-integration, and resilience for millions of Afghans.
