KATHMANDU: At least two people have died after days of torrential rainfall unleashed severe flooding, landslides, and road collapses across Türkiye’s southern Hatay province, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, relentless downpours late Wednesday caused widespread damage to infrastructure and severely disrupted daily life across multiple districts in the region.

In the Antakya district, a house built on a steep hillside collapsed onto a roadway after the saturated slope gave way under heavy rain.

One person was killed in the incident, while emergency teams including health workers, firefighters, police, and disaster response units rescued three others alive from the rubble.

In a separate incident, another person lost their life when a road weakened by floodwaters collapsed, causing a vehicle to veer off course and plunge into a nearby ravine. Officials said the driver died at the scene.

Floodwaters have also inundated homes and commercial buildings across the province, forcing residents to seek rescue as firefighters continue round-the-clock evacuation efforts.

Local authorities say emergency operations are ongoing, with teams assessing widespread damage while continuing search and rescue missions in affected areas.
