KATHMANDU: US President Donald Trump has said that “very good” talks were held with Iran over the past 24 hours regarding an end to the conflict that has continued for more than two months.

Speaking at an event at the White House, Trump claimed that Iran was eager to reach an agreement.

“They want to make a deal. We’ve had very positive discussions in the last 24 hours, and there is a strong possibility that we will reach an agreement,” Trump said.

During his remarks, Trump also referred to the airstrikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel on Feb 28, claiming the attacks caused significant damage inside Iran.

He warned that if the United States were to withdraw at this stage, it could take Iran “at least 20 years” to rebuild the physical infrastructure damaged by the strikes.

The talks are believed to be aimed at easing tensions between Iran and the United States amid the prolonged conflict.

Trump said the Iranian side appeared willing to seek a resolution through diplomatic negotiations.
