KATHMANDU: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the cancellation of a planned visit by American officials to Islamabad for talks with Iranian representatives, saying negotiations will instead be conducted via telephone.

Speaking through social media, Trump said the decision was made to avoid lengthy travel for what he described as insufficient documentation.

He stressed that the United States remains in control of the situation and is open to communication whenever Iran chooses to engage.

The trip had been scheduled for this weekend as part of the second round of U.S.–Iran discussions, with envoys including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner expected to participate.
