KHARTOUM, SUDAN: OCT. 29 – The commander-in-chief of Sudan’s armed forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, has said a new prime minister and sovereign council will be elected in a few days. “I hope the new prime minister and the sovereign council will be elected in a few days or a week,” Al-Burhan told Sputnik.
The Sudanese army detained Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok and other members of the government on Monday morning. Al-Burhan, head of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, addressed the nation on television, discussing the state of emergency and announcing the dissolution of the government. On Tuesday, Hamdok and his wife returned home to the capital.
