KATHMANDU: Real Madrid concluded their La Liga campaign on a high note with a 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.
French star Kylian Mbappe scored both goals for Madrid, finishing the season with 31 league goals.
This match also marked the farewell of head coach Carlo Ancelotti and veteran captain Luka Modric.
Although the result had no impact on the title race—Barcelona had already clinched the championship—Real Madrid secured second place in the standings.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Although his initial penalty was saved, he netted the rebound.
His second goal came seven minutes before full-time, sealing the victory.
After a slow start to his first season at Real Madrid, Mbappe ended in spectacular form—scoring 11 goals in the final six league matches.
He is now the clear frontrunner for the La Liga Golden Boot, leading Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski by six goals.
Barcelona will play their final match of the season against Athletic Club on Sunday.
In other La Liga results, Leganes defeated Valladolid 3-0, Espanyol beat Las Palmas 2-0, and Real Betis drew 1-1 with Valencia.
