RCB chases 228 to seal IPL playoff spot with historic win

KATHMANDU: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have stormed into Qualifier 1 of the IPL playoffs with a sensational run-chase, pulling off the third-highest successful chase in IPL history.
In a high-stakes match on Tuesday, RCB overhauled a daunting target of 228 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), winning by 6 wickets.
The thrilling encounter took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, where RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first.
LSG posted a mammoth 227/3 in 20 overs, led by a blistering century from captain Rishabh Pant.
Pant remained unbeaten on 118 off 61 balls, smashing 11 fours and 8 sixes, while Mitchell Marsh contributed a crucial 67.
In reply, RCB’s chase was anchored by opener Virat Kohli, who scored a quickfire 54.
It was his eighth fifty of the season and the 63rd of his IPL career, surpassing David Warner’s previous record of 62 half-centuries.
However, the turning point came when RCB captain Jitesh Sharma played a match-winning knock.
He hammered an unbeaten 85 off just 33 deliveries, guiding the team to victory with support from Mayank Agarwal, who added 41* in an unbroken 107-run partnership.
With this dramatic win, RCB have climbed to second place on the points table and will now face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 on May 29.
