The municipality has declared a one-day municipal mourning on Friday after 13 people lost their lives when a bus carrying passengers back from a wedding ceremony crashed.
KATHMANDU: The bus accident that occurred in Purchaudi Municipality of Baitadi on Thursday night has cast a shadow of grief across the district.
The municipality has declared a one-day municipal mourning on Friday after 13 people lost their lives when a bus carrying passengers back from a wedding ceremony crashed.
In a special notice, the municipality expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and paid tribute to the victims.
During the mourning period, all government offices, educational institutions (schools and colleges), and private sector offices within the municipality remain closed.
How did the accident occur?
The accident occurred around 8:00 PM on Thursday in Ward No. 7 of Purchaudi Municipality, when a Pawandut Yatayat bus (registration: Sudurpaschim Province 02 001 Kh 1119), returning after dropping off a bride, lost control at Badhgaun Bend and plunged off the road.
The crash claimed the lives of 13 people, while 34 others were seriously injured.
The injured have been admitted to local health facilities and the district hospital for treatment.
Rescue operations faced challenges due to the nighttime conditions and difficult terrain, but security personnel and locals actively assisted in transporting the victims to medical care.
