KATHMANDU: Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have finally reached the pinnacle of European football, securing their first-ever UEFA Champions League title with a dominant 5-0 victory over Italian giants Inter Milan in the final held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.

Once known for assembling a star-studded trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé in their quest for European glory, PSG achieved the historic milestone only after those superstars had left the club.

In a dramatic twist, Mbappé—now at Real Madrid—watched his former club lift the coveted trophy in the same season his current team failed to defend their title.

PSG have now become only the second French club to win the Champions League, following Olympique de Marseille’s triumph in 1993.

The Parisian side had previously reached the final in 2020 but fell short. This time, under the leadership of head coach Luis Enrique, they made no mistake—capping off a dream season with a historic treble, winning Ligue 1, the French Cup, and now the Champions League. Notably, Enrique also guided Barcelona to a treble in 2015.

PSG’s road to glory included victories over top-tier clubs such as Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal. In the final, Inter Milan looked completely outclassed by PSG’s tactical superiority and relentless attacking display.

For Inter Milan, who were making their second final appearance in four years after losing to Manchester City in 2022, it was another heartbreaking end.

Despite edging past Barcelona in a dramatic semi-final decided by a late extra-time goal, Simone Inzaghi’s men fell short once again on the grandest stage.

PSG’s triumph is being hailed as a monumental moment for French football. With this victory, they have firmly established themselves as a powerhouse in European football.

For the club and its passionate fanbase, this long-awaited title is both emotional and historic.
