KATHMANDU: Pokhara Avengers, led by Adam Rossington’s brilliant century, set a challenging 202-run target for Karnali Yaks in the second match of Tuesday’s Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
Rossington remained unbeaten on 108 off 58 balls, hitting 11 fours and 7 sixes, after Pokhara batted first following a toss loss and posted 201 for 2 in their 20 overs.
This marks the third century in NPL history, all of which have been scored by overseas players.
Previously, Scotland’s Mark Watt scored 114 for Karnali against Lumbini Lions, while last year, Pokhara’s American player Andres Gauus hit 104 against Lumbini.
Rossington reached his hundred in 55 balls, compared to Watt’s 41-ball and Gauus’ 54-ball centuries.
Pokhara also became only the second team in NPL history to surpass 200 runs, after Biratnagar Kings scored 220 against them earlier in the tournament.
Captain Kushal Bhurtel fell cheaply for 18 off 17 balls, hitting 3 fours and 1 six, before Rossington joined England World Cup winner Jason Roy for a second-wicket partnership of 127 runs off 72 balls.
Roy made 46 runs from 34 balls, including 2 fours and 3 sixes. Dhananjay Lakshan remained unbeaten on 23 from 11 balls, with 3 fours and a six.
For Karnali, Nandan Yadav took 1 for 34 in 4 overs, and Watt also claimed 1 wicket for 24 runs in 3 overs. Captain Sompal Kami (0/50 in 4 overs) and Gulshan Jha (0/35 in 3 overs) went wicketless.
Pokhara have won just 1 of their 4 matches and must win all remaining three games to secure a playoff spot.
Similarly, Karnali have also won only 1 of 5 matches and need victories in their remaining two matches to keep playoff hopes alive.
