Oli demands govt clarification over alleged CIAA officials’ detention at PMO
KATHMANDU: Lawmaker and Chief Whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Khusbu Oli has demanded an immediate clarification from the government over reports alleging that officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) were confined at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Speaking in the House of Representatives, Oli raised serious concerns claiming that advisors and aides at the Prime Minister’s Office, Nepal had allegedly kept CIAA officials under control for around nine hours.
She said that if the reports were false, the government must promptly deny them. However, if true, she warned that it would amount to a direct interference in the independence of a constitutional body, raising serious questions about governance norms and precedent-setting behavior.
Oli also expressed concern over what she described as growing unease regarding Nepal’s diplomatic conduct, stating that recent reports had raised questions about the dignity of diplomatic missions and could damage the country’s international image and credibility.
She further questioned the direction of Nepal’s foreign policy and diplomatic culture, alleging increasing influence of informal power centers within the Prime Minister’s Office and various ministries.
According to her, such influence is undermining the role of the permanent administrative system, weakening institutional memory, administrative continuity, and overall state stability, thereby triggering widespread public concern.
