KATHMANDU: The Nepali women’s blind cricket team has returned home after finishing as runners-up in the first-ever Women’s Blind T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by Sri Lanka and India.
Officials from the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) welcomed the team at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Nepal fell short of its maiden title on Sunday, losing the final to India by seven wickets at Colombo’s P. Sara Oval. Nepal had set a target of 115 runs, which India successfully chased down in just 12 overs, losing only three wickets to clinch the historic inaugural title.
As champions, India received 1.5 million Sri Lankan Rupees, while runners-up Nepal earned 900,000 Sri Lankan Rupees. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya handed over the prizes to the teams.
Nepal also shone individually in the tournament, with two players winning Player of the Series awards in different categories:
-
Sushma Tamang in the B1 category
-
Mankeshari Chaudhary in the B2 category
Both received 37,500 Sri Lankan Rupees each.
