KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepali Congress lawmaker Sanjay Kumar Gautam has accused the government of behaving like it is “deaf” to public concerns, expressing strong dissatisfaction over the secretive relocation of a river management project from Bardiya to Dadeldhura.

Speaking during Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Gautam objected to the government’s decision to shift the Babai, Bhada, and Aurahi river management projects out of Bardiya district without any prior consultation or notice.

“The government acted as if it were deaf, Mr. Speaker. It neither heard when told nor saw when shown. Despite repeatedly raising this issue in Parliament, the government has ignored it,” he said, demanding the immediate return of the projects to Bardiya.

Expressing his frustration, Gautam added, “This is injustice. The government secretly transferred the Babai, Bhada, and Aurahi river management projects to Dadeldhura. What is the government trying to do? I urge the government, through the Speaker, to listen to my concerns.”

He warned that if the government does not reverse its decision, he would be compelled to launch a peaceful protest.
