Mbappe discharged after illness, doubtful for next match
He has now returned to the club’s training complex in Palm Beach.
KATHMANDU: Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for gastroenteritis, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The 26-year-old French national team captain had missed Tuesday’s training due to a fever and was absent from Wednesday’s 1-1 FIFA Club World Cup group-stage draw against Al-Hilal in Miami.
Real Madrid stated that Mbappé had been hospitalized briefly for gastroenteritis, an intestinal infection that can cause vomiting and diarrhea, but was released within hours.
He has now returned to the club’s training complex in Palm Beach.
“Mbappé will continue receiving medical treatment and will gradually reintegrate into team activities,” the club said in an official statement.
Real Madrid’s next match is scheduled for Sunday against Pachuca. If Mbappé does not recover in time, he is expected to return in the final group-stage match against Salzburg on June 26.
Mbappé joined Real Madrid this season on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and has already made a strong impact, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions.
This Club World Cup marks Real Madrid’s first major tournament under new head coach Xabi Alonso, who replaced Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the La Liga season.
Under Mbappé’s influence, Real have already secured both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in his debut season.
