Lebanese soldier laid to rest with military honors
Despite a declared ceasefire last month, reports indicate a renewed escalation of violent incidents across several areas of Lebanon.
KATHMANDU: A Lebanese Army soldier, Aala Madlej, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike, was laid to rest with full military honors in the southern Lebanese city of Ghaziyeh.
Despite a declared ceasefire last month, reports indicate a renewed escalation of violent incidents across several areas of Lebanon.
Madlej lost his life during this period of renewed tensions, according to military sources.
His funeral was attended by a large gathering of family members, local residents, religious figures, and military officials.
Draped in the Lebanese national flag, his coffin was carried with honor to the burial site, where mourners bid an emotional farewell.
Following a prayer service, he was buried with full military honors.
The Lebanese Armed Forces confirmed that Madlej was killed during an Israeli airstrike in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon.
Speaking at the funeral, local resident Sheikh Taysir Rizk strongly condemned the Israeli military actions, accusing Israel of repeatedly violating international law and targeting both civilians and security personnel, fueling further anger among the Lebanese population.
According to the latest figures released on Saturday by Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Center, the ongoing conflict since March 2 has resulted in 3,371 deaths and 10,129 injuries.
Despite ceasefire efforts, tensions along the border remain high.
