KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Medical College Public Limited (KMC) has announced free treatment services for patients affected during the eviction of squatter settlements.

The initiative will be implemented through KMC Unit-2 in Duwakot, Bhaktapur, targeting individuals who have suffered health issues amid recent displacement drives.

According to the hospital, the clearance of informal settlements along riverbanks in the Kathmandu Valley and other parts of the country has led to a rise in health complications among residents.

With the onset of the monsoon season, these problems are expected to worsen.

In response, KMC said it is providing free medical services on humanitarian grounds.

Patients from affected communities across the valley and beyond can access treatment at the hospital.

However, the hospital clarified that while consultation and treatment services will be free, patients will need to cover the cost of medicines and related supplies.

KMC has also called on civil society organizations and institutions to assist in transporting patients to the hospital, ensuring easier access to care for those in need.
