KATHMANDU: Kidney patients in Nepal have launched protests demanding the cancellation of the 10 percent co-payment system under the national health insurance scheme and the full implementation of the government-announced monthly allowance.
The protesting patients said the co-payment provision has placed an additional financial burden on economically vulnerable individuals undergoing long-term treatment.
They also urged the government to ensure the effective distribution of the already approved monthly Rs 5,000 allowance, claiming that many patients have yet to receive the support.
In addition, the protesters called for the effective implementation of organ donation programs from brain-dead individuals, raising slogans such as “Kidney Donation – Gift of Life” and “Organ Donation – A Noble Act.”
